Preparing your Pump

Before you can use your pump, make sure you have set it up properly.  Make sure the time and date are set, you have batteries install, your basal rates are set according to you doctor.

When you first do this process, it's going to really seem like a lot of stuff to do.  Gone are the old days when you just pulled out a needles, filled it with insulin and injected yourself.  Believe me, this will all become second nature after a month or two.  You have nothing to worry about.

Some people like to stand while preparing and infusing.  I find it more comfortable of doing this process on the sofa or my desk without any distractions.  Even after 3 months, I like it quiet.  No TV on, or chatting with friends on the computer until I'm finished.

Gather your supplies that you will need:

  • Infusion Set

  • Reservoir

  • Bottle of insulin

  • Alcohol swab

  • Infusion Inserting tool (if you have one)

  • Paper Tape (if needed)
