I know from experience, that living with diabetes
can be a major pain in the butt. Diet, Exercise, blood tests,
taking my medications, getting sick and all the other stuff that goes
with being a diabetic. It's not fun at all sometimes, but life
doesn't have to be too hard if you just take the time to learn some
tricks for taking good care of yourself.
The one thing I've learned from other diabetics
I've met in life and online, some tend to think "If I pretend I
don't have it. Maybe it'll go away". That's far from
the truth. Don't fool yourself into thinking that way or bad
things will soon come.
Some of the first rules to follow for any type of
Diabetic
-
See your doctor on a regular basis and tell him
exactly how you feel. Keep a diary and jot down times and
dates of when you feel strange or not right. Also jot down
what you were doing at the time when you were feeling this way.
It can be very helpful to you and your doctor.
-
Follow some type of meal plan created by your
doctor or Nutrition Educator. Keep to it and try not to
stray too far from it.
-
Test your blood sugar everyday. Ask your
doctor how many times you should check it. Some people check
it 2 times a day, others check it up to 10 times a day. Keep
a log of each blood sugar you take and show them to your doctor on
your next visit. This will help the doctor make changes to
your diet or medication intake.
-
Take your medications on time everyday.
Don't skip them, or take them at different times each day.
-
Eat at least 3 meals each day. If your
doctor or Nutrition Educator has suggested you eat a snack or two
each day, don't forget those either. They're all really
important so you don't slip into Hypoglycemia.
-
Try to get out and exercise at least once a
day. Even if it's just for a short walk down the street and
back. Any type of exercise is going to be very good for you.
Remember though, if your blood sugar is running a little low
before going, eat a snack before heading out.
