Information for diabetics and their families

I'm a 38 year old and have had diabetes since 11 years of age.  I've been on insulin injections the entire time.

I love everything about computers.  I've been serious about them for over 15 years now.  I have my own computer repair business, I'm also developing a web page design business which is doing pretty good.  I just got married on April 7th 2001, You can take a peek at our wedding web page if you like by clicking here.

I started out taking only 1 injection a day, then I was moved up to 2-3 depending on how my tests were doing, I was then bumped back down to 1 injection for many years, but now I'm up to 3-4 injections per day.

I remember the days prior to getting the news about my condition.  I remember how weak I was, how thirsty I felt and the yuckiness of everything.  I think my parents suspected something was not right when we were on a hiking trip with my grandmother.  I just couldn't get enough to drink while hiking through a mountain trail that weekend.

I do remember a huge thermos of lemonade that I just about polished off all my myself.  I also remember my mom was a nurses aid and tried diagnosing me herself.  That was a mistake and a half.  I don't blame her for that mistake, I do think one thing was funny that weekend, she dropped my brother and I off at the movies and handed me a bag of jelly beans thinking that would help my condition.  LOL.. That was a boo boo and a half..  But she was trying to make me feel better.  Besides, I love jelly beans.  Especially red and yellow ones!

After the movie, I was feeling really bad.  I remember sweating a lot and still wanting all the fluids I could take without bursting at the seams.  The following day, my mom took me to the doctors office for a check up.  I remember my mom telling the doctor of what she suspected and the doctor told her she was wrong.

I was admitted to the hospital and stayed there for about 10 days from what I recall.  About the only thing I remember during my stay there, was I had to be able to inject myself with insulin before they would let me go.  A nurse handed me a syringe, a bottle of saline solution and an orange to practice with.  hehehe..  that poor orange..  I shot that thing up with so much water, it popped in my lap.
